The Eastport area enjoys a rich 100+ year tradition of arts and culture. Today, the Eastport arts scene is alive with music, theatre, art workshops, gallery shows, lectures, film, and more. Eastport has become well known for our unique and creativity focused festival calendar, from Rhubarb Festival and Downeast Pride in June, Mermaid Festival in August, Salmon and Pirate Festivals in September and Witches of Eastport in October. Don't forget to watch the hand-made papier mache sardine drop each New Year's Eve!
The Tides Museum & Institute of Art has a permanent collection of art and artifacts in addition to its rotating exhibits. In the summer and fall, visiting StudioWorks Artists in Residence share their art and creative processes with the community. The Eastport Arts Center presents a range of visual and performing arts events and workshops. Literary Arts offerings include storytelling, playwriting and flash fiction and poetry contests. The Washington St gallery presents shows by youth artists, community members and established local artists alike. The Eastport Gallery, going strong for over 40 years is a constituent of the Eastport Arts Center and is open in the summer at 109 Water St. and online year-round. Music events in a variety of genres are offered year round and constituent theater company Stage East has been producing plays since 1990.
